The world operates on its own standards and christians operate on the standards set down by Christ and it is obvious that the two will never reconcile. If we truly are in Christ, then we will choose not to let the world's standards enter into our home via the internet or television and even a lot of radio.

Is it being closed-minded to live life this way? Many will say yes but those who know Christ will say it is the only way to safely navigate through this life and not be adversely affected by the things of the world. The Holy Spirit will guide us and tell us when we're embarking into dangerous waters and then we can choose to continue or to say, no, I'm not going there. It is difficult but it will reap rewards if we stay close to His Spirit and overcome.

I can agree but I have to add that it's all about balance. If all you see is Christian things and that's it and you don't focus on THIS LIFE that God gave, you can become so heavenly minded that you do no earthly good, ya know?

You're right there. I was focusing mainly on the aspects of tv and the internet. They both offer outstanding programming and tools for learning but I think that they have been overtaken by the things of the world. I learned the other day that porno occupies nearly 92% of the internet sites available. TV is getting more and more disgusting every year with more and more offensive material being thrown at us. That's why we have to be very careful with our viewing and online habits.

Well it is important to "watch whatcha watch". What gets me is what Magellan said earlier...we might be watching something as a family that is totally fine and then commercials will come on and we are shielding little eyes! As an example, they will play horror movie commercials during the day and it scares the crap out of my 4 year old! I don't want those images filling up her little mind.

Whew! We finally found something to disagree on today! I was beginning to think the entire day would elapse without a good jeff/kaykay go-round!

I am all about being balanced, but most of us work out in the world, have friends and family that are non-believers etc. I would contend that this is a big enough dose of worldliness for most Christians. Why do we need further input from other questionable sources? Obviously, we want to keep up with current events etc. but beyond that, I'm not sure how much more we need infiltrating our minds.

I third the commercial thing. There are good programs on but you never know what you are going to get when the commercials hit. Our daughter goes to bed at 7:00 and we really don't watch much (other than Playhouse Disney) during the day. I am fine with Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse. I 100% agree about balance. Sometimes, in my opinion, people get so far unrelatable that Non-Christians shut down very early on into a conversation. I can't imagine Jesus and God wanting this. But again this is JUST my opinion.

How did you arrive at that statistic? I don't have evidence to the contrary, but it seems rather high.

Default TV is gone at our house...

Ok, here comes the radical extremist fanatic again! But this is Mr. radical extremist fanatic's doing (so blame him, ok?) But about 5 years ago, my husband was your typical American "TV addict." He just decided that for him, he needed to go "cold turkey." He felt like that his life was busy enough and that TV, for him was a time-waster and that there was indeed a lot of garbage on it, so he just quit watching altogether. I never was much of a TV watcher myself. (I prefer addicted to be CD) Anyway, now we do watch DVD's occasionally but we are very selective about what it is. That's not something everyone would want to do or even need to do, but it worked for us.
