Why are parents commissioned to teach their kids about god? (translation, bible)

Biblical passages such as Deuteronomy 11:19 has always been puzzling to me. Many Christians have used such passages as justification to drill their brand of Christianity into the heads of their children (without thought) as something noble. My question is, WHY are parents required to do this? Clearly, a parent will teach their children their flavor of belief and besides, isn't it telling that kids have to be TAUGHT god??? If, as some claim, belief in god is innate, but we suppress it because of our "evil nature," why aren't we left to discover god on our own, whenever and if ever?

Christians choose to teach their children about God and the Bible, because God is the truth and the Bible is His word.
If your children were taught an evil, unsupported hypothesis like evolution in school would you not want them to know the truth? I would!
First off lets be clear that Christians are not the only faith to read this passage.
11:18 Therefore shall ye lay up these My words in your heart and in your soul; and ye shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.
To wear tefillin for prayer.
11:19 And ye shall teach them your children, talking of them, when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
To follow the mitzvot.
11:20 And thou shalt write them upon the door-posts of thy house, and upon thy gates;
To put a mezzuzah on your door to mark your home as a Jewish home.
THE SHEMA ISRAEL
The Shema is recited aloud as follows:
Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad.
Hear, O Israel, the Eternal is our God, the Eternal is One.
THE V'AHAVTA
The next verse following the Shema is called the V'ahavta. The English translation is:
Blessed be God’s Name and glorious kingdom forever and ever. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might. And these words, which I [God] teach you this day, shall be upon your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up. And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for a reminder before your eyes. And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and upon your gates.
Judaism does not claim that belief in G-d is innate. Indeed, an inclination to idolatry seems natural. It was asked, why does not G-d just destroy idols? the answer - because then people would worship the sun, moon and stars, and would we want G-d to destroy all those?
Parents aren't required to do this. They choose to do this. Probably because their parents chose to do it to them. The inertia is hard to overcome.
Well I know there is no law that says they must. I was primarily referring to [some] Christians who feel they have to basically [consciously] force their religion on to their kids as per the "train up a child in the way he should go" (generally meant to mean in THEIR religion) biblical mandate.
Is that so? If it is THAT important, why doesn't this great god just cut out the middle man altogether?
Why should G-d even have created the world, why not just exist in holiness? Thats a basic philosophical/theological question. Once you get that, I think you get why G-d relies on human beings to perfect the world.

Because then we would be puppets.
