Chime in please.

Some friends of mine from a predominately Muslim country celebrate Christmas here with a tree and give out presents like many people in the USA do. They are Atheist but are very aware of their parents and grand parents Muslim history.

I'm of a Christian upbringing but consider myself to be Agnostic. I celebrate Christmas, but as an American secular holiday. I have an Athiest uncle. Same deal..Celebrates Christmas. Some Jewish relatives..same thing!

How common is this?.. Chime in, even if you are outside of the US.

I am an atheist in the US. I celebrate christmas as a secular holiday. Tree, gifts, cookies, time with family, colored lights.

No Jesus stuff though.

I don't celebrate Christmas then again I don't celebrate any Holidays. I do send Christmas cards to friends and family who do celebrate. I also send money to the kids. Other than that it's a good time of year to get good specials on Prime Rib, Ham, and Turkey

Me, too! It's one of my favorite holidays! Baking cookies, buying gifts, decorating the tree, stuffing and mashed potatoes - what's not to like!

I was raised with no religion and have always celebrated Christmas, Easter, etc, as secular holidays. I am continuing my family tradition.

I can see how Christmas can be celebrated as a secular holiday, but unless you have little kids and can do the whole Easter bunny thing, how do you go about celebrating Easter?

About 14 years ago, my husband and I sponsored an immigrant family who had just been relocated in Salt Lake City after having lived in a refugee camp in Bosnia for over a year. They were Muslim, but we kind of wanted to give them a nice first Christmas in the United States. We didn't want to offend them, though, so we cautiously asked them if the would be opposed to our helping them participate in a Christmas celebration. They were thrilled by the suggestion and have made it a part of their lives since then.
