Religion would not pose the threat it does to society and ultimately the future of mankind if believers felt as you do.

Sadly a significant number of believers don't, and we see many (not all) of the ills of society as the result, i.e. the organized hate campaign against homosexuality to discriminate against another significant number of member OF our society. Reason will overcome such willful ignorance as it did in the last baseless discrimination born in the culture of religion, racism. But untold victims will suffer until that happens, and all you have to do is look at the victims of racism to see how ugly that can be. All over a god you all say is just. Really

I think it would be awesome if fundamentalist Christians had an "aha" moment, where they realized the beliefs they see as "truths" are really just stories someone told them that they then believed, with no critical thought involved.

I'm not trying to discredit your post... I'm just saying that there is something that you can't discredit religious people for. I think experience is about the only thing they can't be discredited for.
Actually I find that to be one of the strongest pieces of evidence that no religion has found the truth yet.

It is really no surprise that thousands of people would experience something that their particular religious beliefs have taught them to expect.

If you suddenly had thousands of Christians with no knowledge of Hindu seeing visions of Vishnu or thousands of Hindus with no exposure to Christianity claiming to have met Jesus, that would mean something.

When thousands of Christians claim to have had some type of experience that involves god or Jesus, all it proves is the power of religious indoctrination.

I don't agree at all, but I see where you're coming from.

I would like them to know that my beliefs are nothing to take personal.

Truth.
A lot of people actually don't want to hear the truth. They don't want their believes to be questioned, because they are afraid their believes aren't true, or aren't true enough to support themselves and combat the questions in a realistic, truth seeking way.

I am not saying that.

So, as not to derail this thread, I'll just refer you to an old post of mine that addresses this issue: Easy to be Entreated: Recognizing our assumptions and subjective interpretations
