We aren't trying to hurt you or cause you to lose 'Paradise'. We are trying to help you, just as you think you are trying to help us. It doesn't exist, except as a release from the cares of life.

But in the end.... it kinda is. Definitely not now but once you die.... that's it. Sure... the idea is that we educate our children so that they can evolve to a more sophisticated species and perhaps in the future, if we advance our technology we can summon the powers of an entire star or even the power of the Continuum, but still in the end when the Universe is done... it's done. My belief offers the idea that perhaps there is an afterlife.... and just to be on the safe side, we believe. No Christian believes that you are worthless, and empty.... lost, yes... but certainly not worthless.

A 'just in case' belief means only that one is hedging his bets, and any omniscient deity would see through that.

Many years ago, back in the early 60s, a very old hippie friend of mine and I got into a discussion with a few others about love, hate, religion, and other beliefs and why one group would hate another because of the different beliefs and he came up with these words which at the time seemed to be very appropriate and it seems as though they can be very appropriate even today. These are his words; Hate is only a phase on the path to peace. Learn to accept those around you for who they are and love them anyway. Eventually, you will free yourself and be a beacon for the troubled world around us. The enlightened share love and peace by merely existing and being. Through love, you can have a major impact on the lives around you, like a boulder dropped into a lake were only pebbles have been dropped before, your love can spread and change the world.

At the time him and I were both New Vietnam Veterans and had seen more than our share of hatred and death and even though we were both of different beliefs, we were still brothers. My friend has long since passed on to the other side but I still remember his words to this day.

Yep, I would also think that a deity would be much more merciful to someone that was not sure if any religion was the right one then they would be to someone that chose the wrong one on purpose.

If there actually is a deity and Judgement Day, then I would much rather be able to say that I allowed myself to remain open to all possibilites then to be forced to explain why I had actively denied the existence of the correct god.

What will the Christians do if the deity that meets them in the afterlife is Osiris instead of Jesus? Can you say awkward?

Despite what I think you're thinking... I see no flaws in it at all.

I think you need to check your sense of humour Fred.
