Since we are all so fond of "what if" questions...
What if god put everyone on the earth with the purpose of weeding out the most independent, intelligent, logical thinkers to be his "angels"?
This would be logical because the natural world and the universe is quite obviously based on scientific principles, and any decent parent would want children to grow into successful, independent adults... so why would god be any different?
And since most atheists here have stated they would happily add god to their science books if there was actually any proof of god, atheism is not really a matter of rebellion against god per se, just rebellion against people who claim to be in god's pocket already.
Maybe the confusion about religion is deliberate and encouraged behind the scenes as a test to find out who has the necessary skills, and who just doesn't have the *right stuff* to work in god's laboratory...
So honestly, I think the atheists have just as good a chance of being raptured as the die-hard fundies...
I would view it as none of my business since I am not qualified to criticize a choice made by an infinitely wise God who is able to delve deeply into the motives of the human heart and determine potential. That reminds me of when Saul was chosen as an Apostle contrary to all Christian expectations since he had been the most dangerous of Christian enemies up to that point. Yet he became the most zealous of Apostles once he was properly enlightened.

1 Samuel 16:7 (ESV)
7. But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."
Isaiah 55:9
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
And since most atheists here have stated they would happily add god to their science books if there was actually any proof of god, atheism is not really a matter of rebellion against god per se, just rebellion against people who claim to be in god's pocket already.
most certainly a more sincere, honorable position and viewpoint than that of pascal's wager.
Actually, it's similar to a form of criticism of Pascal's Wager, which learned people have debated over the years. People who could conduct critical analysis of a position and offer cogent, intelligent thoughts on the subject, rather than be stymied.
