raison_d'etre: Simply because we come to different conclusions concerning the validity and usefulness of such terms does not mean that we don't understand them. In fact, it may well mean that we do. BTW, nice kneejerk reaction to the SM thread.

Im going to assume you meant blatantly...

People make blatant claims regardless of religion. Science does this all the time... then they are proven wrong.

You can't possibly understand how each individual understands these words.
The meaning of spirituality means one thing to me and something different to another.

You do realize "patently" is a word, right? I'm not going to bother looking it up for you, because I'm assuming you know how to use a dictionary.

Yes, this is how the scientific method works. They change things if they're wrong, or we would still take it on faith that the sun revolved around the earth.

Why don't you take a moment to tell us what you think those terms mean? It is possible that we do have differing definitions.

So why did you ask if atheist and agnostics know how religious people use those terms, if its your position that no one else does either?

From the wording of your question, one could be led to believe you were creating some sort of distinction there, instead of standing for the general proposition that know one knows the exact connotation of terms another person uses.

Why was this important again?

I think you have that backwards, my friend. We all know that a belief in god exists for many, but the existence of god is open to question.

  • Belief
Do you understand these terms as the people who are religious and spiritual? Do you know what it really means to be and feel spiritual? Do you understand why we believe in such things?

Even if you were once a member of some religion or have studied many religions...
No I don't. Belief is individual and unique to the brain thats doing the believing and cannot be an objective experience. I am not you so I cannot understand your personal concept of belief.

Of course we do. Most of us were once involved in religion of some denomination or another. We probably know more about it than most religion/spiritual people as well.
