huh?

Anyway, Churches haven't done anything useful that i can think of in a long time. Some church leaders have done some good things. But the churches themselves? Meh....i'm not impressed.

I dont think it can be quantified. How are we to know how or to what extent religion/church has influenced individuals. Prayer, teachings and gospel could influence people in a positive way, negative way or not at all.

Exactly. Since we don't have an identical society that operates without religion, there is no way of knowing.

I can tell you definitively I'm a much more law-abiding person after coming to know Christ than I was before. I"m much less aggressive and much more moral. It took a church to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus for me to believe.

There is only so much the church can do about those things before atheist advocacy groups tell them to butt out and stop meddling in other people's lives.

Reduce crimes and perversions? Not if Richard Dawkins has anything to say about! Not while Christopher Hitchens is still alive!

Well, I don't subscribe to a God and I in no way subscribe to any church, but...I have to say in fairness that some churches really do put forth an effort to help people in need.

My sister's church is a homeless shelter once a month (I think) for Friday through Sunday and the parishioners take turns volunteering to be there to serve food, get people settled, etc. They also sponsor a boys' home in town.

They do food drives and other stuff too.

Then again...they're a bunch o' them heathen Godless Unitarians whut believe EVERYbody is gonna be saved so they're all going to hell despite their efforts. But even given that, they still do community work, and it's all volunteer.

Now...how does that rate v. some non-religious community initiatives? I don't know. It could be pretty small in comparison. I really just don't know. But I do know some churches at least try. That still doesn't make me want to go to one but I thought it would bear saying.
