You can have faith in many things, but that doesn't make it true.
You can have faith that you can fly on your own power.
As long as you do not test this faith or stubbornly do not accept any unsatisfactory outcome, your faith will be 'true'.
Theories have to be tested to see if they are true or not. And of course here one can also not accept any unsatisfactory outcome.

Unless one is prepared to make the ultimate leap of faith, one will never be sure.

Ah, therein lies the mystery. Seriously, I don't know, I just know that I believe there is a Creator, and that's good enough for me. But, I do like Kawg's answer from the other thread, about who or what created God. I may have to write that one down.

And this is what I perceive as the main problem. People use the Bible only as their safety net. This is the reason why many believers take their bible, torah, or koran so damned literal. They are afraid to take a true leap of faith into life and reality because it is more chaotic than the static scriptures.

For me, faith preceeded knowledge, which preceeded belief.

It was a leap of faith. And I didn't drown.

A leap of faith normally means not knowing. Doubting even.

Then why use the scriptures as a security blanket? Why for example pretend something doesn't exist or cannot be possible because it isn't mentioned in the good book or contradicts scripture?
This way religion does indeed become the opium of the people. Many people rather chase the dragon (become addicted to opium) instead of live wilfully.

I think you can see from most of my posts, I try very hard not indulge in scripture battles.

I grew up in a family who went to "church", attended sunday school, but was not a christian. Had a bible since I was a small child, and never understood what the heck it was saying.

I remember the day, time and place that I ( out of desperation ) took the "leap". I could drive to the exact spot ( the shoulder of a country road ).

It was only after that experience, that I began reading scripture, and it began "speaking" to me.

Got to go now. I volunteer in our community, and I'm running late.
Duty calls.

Ah! I see where you're coming from. I had a similar experience after I decided not to kill myself.
Love did not really made sense before I was willing to give it all up. But instead of giving up I took the conscious decision to stay alive and take full responsibility for all my actions.
