But do you know where the absolute prohibition came in? Is it because of Prohibition in the 1920's maybe?
No its because of greed and the system of reward for ass kissing. No true 'saint' would in good conscious get wasted and drunk, and the best way to stop that temptation is to have to drink at all. Also, caffeine and THC makes the money source (followers) more likely to criticize religion. Harder illicit drugs would just make the opulent hoarding church look bad.
I'm sorry you are wrong!! In D&C 89:5 it reads "That inasmuch as any man drinketh wine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him." Which means that by the revelations of Joseph smith says we shouldn't drink alcohol because it's a STRONG DRINK!! People these days don't understand and I'm still trying to understand about this church. I'm 17 and I know that this church is true and I'm sure your about 20-30 years old
We also have modern day prophets that refer to all drugs and alcohol as filth that we cannot associate
Alcohol is a good sour throat suppressant acting like a cleansing cough drops. I'd recommend sticking to small amounts and do it when it is beneficial to your body. This should stay in the lines of the word of wisdom. This goes the same with all the other goodies. If you couldn't do this wouldn't all drugs prescribed or not also be against the word of wisdom? I think not.
Interesting thread. I've always been told Mormons are in agreement on everything...
Really? Who told you that? Mormons are actually quite varied, just like people of all other Christian denominations.

I don't know very many Mormons who'd say that. But they probably would claim to know more about it than the average person who gets his information on Mormonism from CARM.
