Can you learn to think logically?
I don't mean in general common sense, but logical thinking, like being able to solve a problem like this:

All the trees in the park are flowering trees.
Some of the trees in the park are dogwoods.
All dogwoods in the park are flowering trees.
If the first two statements are true, the third statement is

A.
true
B.
false
C.
uncertain

Can you teach someone to think in a logical matter? Can you learn to use logical deduction and to think that way? Or is it something you are born with?

Yes. Every person who thinks logically was taught to think logically, or learned how to by reading the logical thought processes of an author. One doesn't come out of the womb with the skill of thinking logically.

It is a skill that can be taught like every other skill. Some people, due to a lack of intelligence may not be able to learn the skill, but I think most people can. Our school systems should be teaching it, but far too often do not.

I would add that the ability to think logically can be learned through experience, as well. Formal and advanced logic, etc. is different, since there is a tradition of teaching those skills.

But I agree basically - humans are not born with the fully realized ability to reason from the womb. They do eventually learn cause and effect ("if I cry, mom reacts"), etc. at a young age experientially, but its from observation, I believe. Not sure if one could say that this is an instinctual, self-preservation inheritance, though.

At any rate - I want to know who voted for "No, you cannot teach people logic" heh heh!! Of course you can teach logic to people. This, as Hueffenhardt pointed out, is not negated if there are bad students (for whatever reason) ha!

Can you learn to think logically?

Yes, every day thousands of students in classrooms are taught the rules of logic for validating arguments and propositions..... particularly in philosophy, math, computer science and other disciplines. The formulas, computations, and rules can all be learned if that's what one wants to do. This is left-brain food.

The things we say are intuitive, on the other hand, are something else...... they are more of a right-brain product.

Why do you think the ignorance we deal with is so frustrating? Do you know how much better society would be if half of the people on the planet weren't raised by idiots?

When you brainwash someone from birth, you are literally changing the physiology of their brain. You are changing how they think, act, and process information. If that child's brain was in the hands of a more responsible and smarter person, that child will grow up more responsible and smarter.

That is why it's frustrating to hear an adult say christianity is the one true religion, or that gay people aren't equal. Another retarded adult molded that person's brain as a child, and the result is another ignorant brain roaming the planet and affect other's lives. It's just sick.

Logic to a righteous Christian is rejected as Son of God Lord Jesus who make it clear that His Words will not be reason out , as this is the Work of Spirit of antichrist..... See the Lord is a Royal Lord of Heaven and the earth , and what the Lord says, Goes or, the People do not receive, as trust and faith are the keys to Heaven ....
