Since there was a thread 'Define God' I thought I would kick this one off.

Religion: A daughter of Hope and Fear, explaining to Ignorance the nature of the Unknowable. Ambrose Bierce

This actually is good for God as well.

I think of religion as what one must do to appease a god/God.

Religion is the enemy of true Christianity.

True Christianity says it is already done for you through Christ's death.
Religion says what you must do.

Religion: systems of belief thought up by humans across cultures and millenia in an attempt to explain life, death, purpose, consciousness, morality, the universe and all other things real and imagined.

Religion is the enemy of true Christianity.

True Christianity says it is already done for you through Christ's death.
Religion says what you must do.
Two Points:

1) Christianity entails the principle of appeasing a God, and

2) Christianity says people must do something - believe in #1.

Therefore, according to your own standards Christianity is a religion.

You are correct that Christianity is like religion. That's why I said "true Christianity."

religion is something based on a set of beliefs, if you agree with the beliefs you follow them and they become part of your life.. its just a bunch of thoughts that some are very attached to. its a way of life i guess, but it is not life itself. we are life beyond any beliefs

Following what someone else believes without doing your own research. Basically, a puppet with no thought of your own and living the life of another.

This is good...better than what I was going to say...I see religion as oppressive....having nothing to do with reality...a set of crutches for those who need something to hold onto,..something they can believe in...much easier than dealing with the sometimes hard truth and facts...religion offers a false comfort to assuage the many aches and pains in/of life.

I suppose if I had to define it, I'd say that it is belief in some supernatural agency which influences the way we lead out lives, but I suppose one could say that about Astrology, too.
