Or rickets from the lack of vitamin D or calcium.

1 a day multi-vitamins and a secret chest freezer full of orange juice concentrate.

You can have/do anything you want in a fairy tale.

Seeing the tale was written by goatherders and not seafarers, scurvy would not have been known, plus they hugged the coastline back then if they went to sea.

Noah freeze-dried the oranges and other fruits high in vitamin C. He may have also had on board loads of sauer kraut which also is great anti-skurvy. He may also have had some good grog.

On the insistence of senior officers, led by Rear Admiral Alan Gardner, in 1794 lemon juice was issued on board the Suffolk on a twenty-three week, non-stop voyage to India. The daily ration of two-thirds of an ounce mixed in grog contained just about the minimum daily intake of 10 mg vitamin C. There was no serious outbreak of scurvy.
