Another child sex abuse scandal...and religion. This family is "shunned" for reporting this crime. Why does this happen again and again?

hypocrites exists in ALL religion. Jesus Himself exposed and called them at it during His time. These days though, it's all about sexual crimes. I hate reading about these criminals. And i hate reading how victims are shunned because they expose the REAL evils in their religion.

It's nothing new, it's been going on for centuries and it isn't exclusive to any one religion.

It just gets better press coverage these days.

When I was a kid, growing up in a unfun fundy church, we had a preacher, who basically everyone was scared of. To give you an idea of how scared we were of this guy, some of us have gotten together as adults and looked back on life then and coined the term "baptist mafia" for unexplained events of the time.
Two events more than any others stand out
First he had a teenage daughter who ran away from home. Why would a teenager leave home? Because of abuse perhaps?
Second, he also had a son, one of those stereotypical dumb jocks who excels in sport but has an IQ of 80 and spends most of his time when he is not in special ed suspended for all the fights he starts.
One afternoon this son had caught a lizard and decided it would be fun to pour gasolin on it and light it up. Problem was, he was dumb enough that he poured gasoline down his leg and lit himself of ifre!!!!!
So he gets this burn on his leg has to go away for plastic surgery. We got the whole story first hand the day after it happened from two other kids who saw it. WELL These two kids, along with their parents, got a visit from this preacher and his wife who wanted to talk about what "really " happened and suddenly the story changed to instead of vandalism andd arson, their son was the innocent victim of a motorcycle accident. According to them (and everyone after they were scared into changing their story) the kid was trying to our gas into the engine of his motorbike that would nto start and it exploded burning his leg.

Many years later, his daughter returned home and about two weeks later, the guy suddenly announced that gawd had called him to go away as a missionary and next week would be his last week there. Many of us were glad to see him go. He disappeared from the world after that. I found his name listed a year ago at some small out of the way Texas church. if it is him, he has to be well into his late 70s by now.
One of my friends who had an older sister who was the same age as this runaway preachers daughter said she had been at her house and confided that her dad was sexually molesting her and that is why she left. Kind of makes me wonder if she was not back in town talking and he decided it was time to get away. Or maybe HE made the wrong person mad at him. Who knows? But he sure packed up and left quickly and was never seen again.

No big suprise there.

Of course this was a congregation where someone who had argued with him for months about some mission work mysteriously died in an unsolved hit and run. Another guy must have done something , I remember seeing him on Sunday and by Tuesday he was dead of supposed kidney failure. Having a medical background now, I would look back on that and say yes it is possible, but not probable, especially for someone who looked fine 48 hours before.

And you wonder why I mkae my kids go to a Buddhist meditation now and we avoid fundy Christian churches like wee avoid the plague...or rather, the mafia....

This is the second thread on this article in just a few days here at C-D. As the excellent posters above have noted, this isn't about religion, it's about criminals.

Of course this thread (not the article) is about agendas.

Of course this thread (not the article) is about agendas.
The only agenda is the absolute outrage that an entire community would band against victims so completely and viciously to protect their heinous communal lack of integrity in enforcement of crimes against its members.

That's because it's a common practice in Islam.

It's not in America.

Not really. With all the so called morality is better with religion, all this is, is holding up a shiny mirror and asking why?

When the secular world hold the religious to higher standards than they themselves do, why should it be seen as an agenda? After all, the religious are always espousing how much better they are because of their god belief(s).

If anything, it is showing that abuse of minors abhorrent by most folk's standards really should not be happening in religious circles esp. where it is in a closed community where one expects this not to happen.

The fact it was reported and based on the article, these communities cannot exact retribution according to their beliefs and/or holy books and merely prefer to sweep it under the rug.
A few blocks away, Pearl Engelman, a 64-year-old great-grandmother, said her community had failed her too. In 2008, her son, Joel, told rabbinical authorities that he had been repeatedly groped as a child by a school official at the United Talmudical Academy in Williamsburg. The school briefly removed the official but denied the accusation. And when Joel turned 23, too old to file charges under the state’s statute of limitations, they returned the man to teaching.
Convenient huh?

Tougher laws are required with double sentencing for people who cover serious situations requiring prof investigation. ( 15 yrs min sentence

Also if society is going to get tough against things, its time to get real. That "kid" has a full beard and is bigger then his dad. This is clearly a full gay orientated crime.
