It looks like there aren't many great matches for your search

Are you talking about the Rwandans perhaps? The Bosnian War? The "Khmer Rouge?"

As one who is big on the big numbers, have you ever considered the total percentage of these "genocidal barbarians" and/or their victims as a percentage of the entire world population?
It's a topic in Great Debates so it can't be all hush-hush. You know, the "A" word.

At least we're not leaving unwanted babies in the streets or forests to die as in the old days (Jesus time too).

I can't factually know what I believe is correct, but any belief system that emphasizes love first and foremost, is headed in the right direction. Not to say followers are adhering to the love motif, but it IS there.

If you are atheist, that you do not believe in the existence of a god is a complete statement. I dont see an argument after that for an atheist who is firm in his conviction. He does not pray, attend church, sing any songs of glory, or even think about a god as he goes about his day.
If there is no god, qualities of a god is a nothing, it is nonsense. If i dont believe unicorns exist, i will not be discussing the length and feel of her horn. It is a no-thing to me. Imagination at most.
Completely, utterly, unequivocally, unilateraly, totally, absolutely, and one hundred percent ... wrong.

First of all - here we go again. It's the standard "sit down and shut up" argument that I am SICK TO DEATH of hearing. "Oh, if you don't believe in god then you don't have any reason to say anything bad about him!"

So let's take your unicorn example. No ... no one is going to blame a unicorn for trampling their flower garden.

But if a bunch of unicorn-worshiping fanatics trample my garden because they believe the unicorn told them that trampling gardens is how unicorns keep their horns healthy ...

Then yeah - unicorns themselves might be fantasy, but I'm being affected by unicorns in a very real sense: I have a trampled garden that I spent a lot of time and money cultivating. THAT's when I would get into a debate about the reality of unicorns and demonstrate how unicorn-worship is destructive. If there was a unicorn holy book that talked about unicorn horns, I might try to convince unicorn-worshipers how silly their beliefs are by deconstructing the entire concept of unicorns - and their horns. Which may require me to talk about unicorn horns.

It doesn't matter if I think unicorns are real. THEY do. And as a result they're destroying my garden. (And probably many other people's gardens, as well.)

Are you suggesting that, because I don't believe in unicorns, I just "sit down and shut up" and let them trample my garden over and over because of their wacked-out religious convinction that unicorns benefit from trampled gardens?

Because that IS what you're saying. And I'm really REALLY tired of this line of argument. It's the worst, most illogical argument I've heard in a long time. Because it doesn't at all justify having a belief system that we atheists criticize. All you're doing is trying to shut us up by claiming it's silly to talk about something we don't believe in.

I guess I'm not even allowed to discuss fictional characters in books or movies - and neither are you. Why would I EVER discuss Spiderman or Harry Potter or James Bond or Darth Vader or Gandalf the Gray? It would be silly, right? Because you don't believe those characters are real ... right?

They're just imaginary characters - so don't you dare ever have a discussion with someone else about these characters - or any other character that isn't real.

Wrong.

There are many Christians who are wondering all the time why God isn't doing his job. So what do they do? Blame everyone they don't like. Gays, transgenders, atheists, Muslims, liberals, Democrats, intellectuals, socialists, communists, the poor, the homeless, etc. Even when 20+ kindergarteners were shot and killed at Sandy Hook, almost immediately, preachers were shouting about how atheists were to blame because we took God out of our schools. And therefore God couldn't protect those children.

Can you even imagine something so vile? Why would I even WANT to worship a God who has all the power in the universe to stop those kids from getting killed but doesn't - on purpose - just to get even with those evil atheists ...

So you can't tell me they don't wonder why God isn't doing his job. And it is poison such as that which causes we atheists to come out in force to criticize the god and the religion. Because deconstructing the god is the only real way to deconstruct the religion.

People like you who put words into my mouth and emotions into my brain. Don't you sit there and presume to tell ME how I feel. THAT frustrates me. Because I'm sick of people doing it. The only reason why you're claiming omniscience by telling us how frustrated we are is because your argument fails otherwise. If we're not frustrated, then you really have no idea why we criticize god and religion. No matter how many times we tell you, you STILL don't seem to know. I find that rather ... odd.

So we're back to this cop-out are we? "You just don't understand" and that's why I'm an atheist. And what kind of person could possibly sit there and tell us "you cannot understand" and then accuse atheists of hubris? I'd rather be prideful than a hypocrite.

Next time, proofread. Then maybe you'll catch such ridiculous gaffes before you hit "submit" and embarrass yourself.

Thanks for reading.

If this topic gets mentioned again by any of you reading this thread, you can expect to have your account banned. I did not agree to moderate such political arguments. and you all know it.
