Is it sad that I am surprised that this was not a Roman Catholic church?

No, as a matter of fact you do not. I oppose bigotry irrespective of source.

Sexual predation is a deranged act of violence. It is of particular concern wherever and whenever you have an asymetrical relationship of trust and power - be it a church, a Boy Scout troup, or a congressional staff. To suggest that it is a result of theology is stupid in the extreme, a stupidity that reflects a near mindless bigotry.

The point is not to 'protect your child from church leaders' but to protect your child in all asymmetrical relationships.
Agreed.

You're pretty naive if you think it's only a religious setting where predators do their thing. Or maybe it's your particular anti-religious bent that's prohibiting you from thinking straight.
The Boy Scouts is a religious setting, and they have been caught protecting child molesters too.

Why is it that the organizations that pretend to be the arbiter's of morality and righteousness are the ones usually caught in these kind of scandals?

Church is only one place that attracts predators. School, Boy Scouts, movie theaters, little league sports, the internet, public bathrooms, etc, etc. Anywhere where the children are is a "hangout"for the child predators.

I do wish we would not just publicize the ones caught at the church's..Although I did know of one in the church I used to attend, and as others here have said most of the members took up for the "pig". The "pig" made his play for my grandson's friend in a public restroom. I tried to warn the church about him, because he came there and sat in the back where he could see all the little boys as they came up the aisle to go to the bathroom or outside.

The men/leaders of the church said I was "out of line" for not asking my husband to speak for me They said my grandson may have been exaggerating and I was overreacting because the "pig" was a good man and a retired marine and county worker.

Prosecutor was glad when I spoke to him though
