Being aware that we will die and are connected to all things on earth makes us aware of the importance of concentrating on the ethical quality of our life as opposed to considerations of quantity of possessions or size of religious edifices. Creation is our church and our bible. We don’t have chapters and verses; we have trees, fish and animals. We have the wind and other forces of nature to teach us.

When humans lost that connection to his fellow creation, he lost his way. When you have people who see creation and nature as a primitive, wild, rude, untamed, savage and something to be controlled, tamed and exploited indiscriminately, well, how are they going to treat their fellow humans? This is the simple thing that people all over this planet have forgotten.
Truth.

Actually it does in the new living translation... I guess one has to choose which version of the bible to use according to what the target of their bigotry is.... http://nlt.scripturetext.com/romans/1-24.htm

If you read the 1st chapter of Romans you will see an exhaustive list of sins (homosexuality by both men and women included) here is what it says:

Romans 1:24-28 (New Living Translation)

So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result they did vile and degrading things with each other's bodies.

They traded the ruth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator Himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.

Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, He abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.

God does not place any sin above another. He does say however, that sexual sin is different, in that it affects your body.

1 Corinthians 6:18

Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. for sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.

God loves us! He is not some great "kill joy" in the sky. He created us; and just as we love our own children and don't want them to harm themselves, He does so even more.

The world is teaching us that everything is acceptable and ok. If we would only remember that history repeats itself and listen to the words of historian Arnold Toynbee and what his study of history revealed regarding immorality and previous nations;

"Of the 22 civilizations that have appeared in history, 19 of them collapsed when they reached the moral state America is in today."

If those of you who do not believe in the Bible, would take the time and truly read it with the intent of finding the truth, you would be amazed. Every prophecy written in God's Word has come to pass EXACTLY - with the exception of those prophecies concerning future events. Read Matthew 24 and tell me we aren't seeing some of those prophetic Words happening this very day.

It's alreadly been established in this thread that the early church fathers wrote that the women Paul referred to in Romans 1 were having anal sex with men, not sex with each other.
That particular version (ESV) you posted is NOT at all what the original Greek says either.

1.26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural (ie anal sex with men rather than vaginal sex- according to early church fathers Augustine and Clement of Alexandria and others)

http://www.blueletterbible.org/Bible...t=NASB#conc/26

And once again another anti-gay 'Christian" complete ignores the VERY obvious context of idolatrous worship of pagan gods described in the preceding verses. That's what comes of copying and pasting just those verses from anti-gay religious websites instead of actually READING the whole letter. The fact that you think Romans 1 is just an "exhaustive list of sins" shows you haven't bothered to read the whole letter (Romans 1 and 2) and have no understanding what the context was.

Ergo, there is NO mention of lesbians in the Bible.

I almost missed this little nugget. ^

Do you realise that Arnold Toynbee was born in 1889 and died in 1975? His series of books were mostly written before the 1950's. He has been criticized by other historians as a "Christian moralist" rather than a historian. Some of his comments about Jews were also rather anti-semitic - although he did make them before WWII.

Might help to do some research before copying and pasting from conservative religious websites.

That quote was made more than 40 yrs ago.

Edited to add:

What's even more ironic is that Toynbee divorced his first wife in 1946 and married his research assistant the same year. He was an adulterer!

You'll find it in a couple of conservative translations. Clearly 'twisting' and adding to the original Greek for their own agenda.

And that's backed up by recent brain scan studies.

Brain scans show how people project their own views onto what they think are "God's" views.

Creating God in one's own image : Not Exactly Rocket Science

"Their opinions on God's attitudes on important social issues closely mirror their own beliefs. If their own attitudes change, so do their perceptions of what God thinks. They even use the same parts of their brain when considering God's will and their own opinions."

"The results suggest that similar parts of the brain are involved when we consider our own beliefs and those of God - Epley thinks this is why we end up inferring a deity's attitudes based on those we hold ourselves."
