This is a subject I find shocking as well.
To me it is always a downer to learn that someone that I know and respect for their spirituality is someone that falls into the group that is mentioned in the article linked below.

The author is obviously a left leaning "Jesus is a pacifist" Christian. he trots out the verses supporting his view and then the right wing Christians come back with the verses in the bible that support their view.

However the disconnect is very real in that there is the "personal god" aspect to Christianity but there is also a geopolitical aspect of Christianity which leads us to war.

the bible claims that "God is not a respecter of persons" yet he had Israelites on favored on favored nation status until Paul decided to take the message to the gentiles.

So this begs the question. How can God not be a respecter of persons when it is evident that he is a respecter of nations?

Regardless, pacifism is a noble idea that will never work because all the prayer in the world won't stop nations/terrorists from warring.

In fact, the only thing that will stop wars is if the politicians were mandated to be the ones to go fight them.

Well I'm a peace activist but not a pacifist I don't think we should be fighting in far off lands for the corporations.
War is so horrific that it should only take place as a last resort and only to actually protect the homeland from an actual invasion not a plot hatched by the FBI.

I like what this USMC Officer had to say.
