The wildly popular Harry Potter books and their author, J.K. Rowling, have already been blasted by Christian conservatives for glamorizing witchcraft and the occult. The fantasy series is now charged with encouraging homosexuality following the author’s announcement that one of the novels’ main characters is gay.

LOL, I knew this would come up. I don't really know if one can be 'encouraged' to be gay, much like no one can be 'encouraged' to be straight... and furthermore, pretending that Dumbledore isn't gay, when in Jo's mind he certainly is, is turning a blind eye to reality... certainly unhealthy.

LOL... as a librarian, I can call "hogwash" on this whole thing. Luckily we don't bow to that kind of pressure, and proudly display the "challenged books" every year during Banned Books Week. Guess Harry Potter & friends will be the headliners next year, hehe.

LOL... close enough. The ironic thing is that I don't really like these books, and only got through the first one. Just not my kind of thing, which of course has nothing to do with any homosexual characters.

Never read any of the books. Can't really say how I feel about them.

If this wasn't so tragic it would be quite hilarious really... Sad that some people are so incredibly narrow minded. They obviously feel threatened by something which is completely innocuous and I actually feel sorry for those poor misguided souls. Life must be so dull and full of fears for some...

I love books, and I think its up to the individual to decide what they wanna read and not read. Does it offend me because a character in a book is gay? no lol..its a book. I have never read Harry Potter, just not my type of book. I wish I had all the time that some people had to figure out what I should or shouldnt read.

I think the whole thing is silly...

The character is not identified as gay in the book anyway...that was just the author's thoughts. I didn't read the books, only have seen the movies...but DH has read all of them and he said if the charater is gay then he missed it. So if a 40 something year old man missed it I'm pretty sure the kids will too, if that matters to you.

Or...maybe its all just a publicity stunt by J.K. to drum up interest in her NEXT series of books...The LARRY Potter series...the story of Harry's 2nd cousin from Georgia.

hee hee hee...sorry...couldn't resist.
