Hey! your beginning to figure things out, keep up the work, and you can also cast aside the nonsense learned from ancient superstitions.

I'm not interested in becoming an atheist any time soon.

Or you can wait until death, and become just like your god. Non-existant

There is too much living and loving to do to waste any of it on ancient superstitions.

I'm sorry. But there are some pretty dumb responses here. No wonder the U.S. is so far behind other countries in education. The Bible is not a history book. No one has any way of knowing how old the earth or the universe is. You know, people really limit themselves when they use religion as their only reference.

God is the omnipotent scientist. Now, when will we stop referring to something thats above our comprehension as "He"? (I'm talking about God) Funny how humans try to rationalize something they can't even fathom.

And what genius claimed the sun moves!? Lol! Thats just retarded! The sun sits at the center of our solar system. All planets revolve around it.

I don't know where the threat is coming from except from the imaginations of your own mind. All I was implying was that the sciences will prove me right.

If that is so you will be just as non-existent as him when the time comes so unable to gloat about the matter.

As to the original question it depends on if we mean "Earth" or "Universe" by the world. If we mean the Earth approximately 4.54 billion years and if we mean the Universe it's something like 13.7 billion years. There's some possibility for error in both figures.

Baffin Island rocks hint at earth’s original recipe - The Globe and Mail
WMAP- Age of the Universe
Planck spacecraft's first look back in time: Scientific American Gallery
Gerald Schroeder - Articles - Age of the Universe - A bit of an oddball, but he agrees to the generally accepted age.

I believe the world may be quite old, but that it was re-created after a cataclysmic destruction. I subscribe to the "Gap Theory" that between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 there was an unknown period of time that may have been millions of years. It's an unprovable theory, like evolution, but that's the one I believe.
