The basic premise that a lack of physical evidence negates historical veracity is inherently flawed. Physical evidence is needed in a court of law, but history and the study thereof isn't a court of law. There are Egyptian kings for whom no monuments or hieroglyphs have survived, but that doesn't negate historians' opinion that they existed. Their names were recorded some time after their deaths.
The difference with Jesus? The various items written that wound up being included in the New Testament, and many that didn't wind up being included were all written after AD 30. The earliest were Paul's epistles, which were written some 20 years + after the fact, yet before the Jewish diaspora. What we do know is that the original Christian sects flourished in Judea. Had Jesus not existed, these sects would have been easily refuted. All it would have taken is a 40-year-old guy from Nazareth to say "Jesus the Carpenter? Never heard of him..."
Jesus probably existed but it was not like in the Bible. No offense but it looks like he had a mental disorder, possibly a schizophrenia because he expressed psychotic signs. He was different. He had bad reality testing.
One could ask do we exist, there is so much that can not be seen, feel or smell, but we know certain things exist. So how would one really know if Jesus exist in this world or not. If people kept their mind in a plane to only believe in what they see, feel, or smell. We has humans would not be advanced as we are now. All we are are atoms made up into a mass. A whole human body is only made up of cells and water, but we do exist in our minds as a whole person, and we do not see our selves as tiny little particles. If one stops asking questions, then we would not beable to find answers. So yes Jesus exists for some and others still question his very existance.

Sorry,Big Al but I am offended. The thought that I've been worshipping a schizophrenic is a bit of an insult!Further, to say he was that mentally ill implies that his teachings were meaningless...

Here's a little analogy for the Christians: If a man came up to you in a white shroud, sandals, and long hair claiming to be Jesus, the son of god, would you believe him and take his word despite him not presenting the first bit of evidence to support his absurd claims?
No, you would not. So, how is relying on historical documents, which contain omissions and forgeries, written years after Jesus alleged death, constitute definitive proof?
I would not beleive him because the Bible tells me not too. It tells me that when Jesus comes again, every eye will see and every person will know and bow down to him.
When you become a beliver and take Jesus as your saviour, then you know that Jesus is the son of God and you need no other proof.
But I would say that the propheies in Revelation(the last book of the Bible), that are all comming true before our eyes, should be proof to the unbeleiver. But the beleiver needs no other proof but God's word(Bible).

Yes, offense! Big_Al, just to point out this did offend me as well.
Just like you are physical proof your great great great great great great grand-daddy existed, Christian themselves are proof Jesus existed.
You're not saying that he's the biological father of all Christians?

P.S. Several times evidence has been produced on this thread - and ignored. Oh well, so it is and shall be till he returns...
Very tenuous evidence which doesn't stand up to examination.
