It's the third largest religion in the world in terms of number of followers. There are forums on here for relatively minor religions like Judaism and Buddhism but not Hinduism. Makes no sense to me.

Not much to debate.
Generally accepting of other faiths.
More of a way of life than something you do on Sunday.

Perhaps the first step would be to have a hinduism thread ('Ask a Hindu' is one, I believe) and if it was ongoing and lively, then there would be a case for a separate forum.

However, it does seem that no news is good news in that, where nobody is coming and making Faith - claims about Hinduism, nobody is taking issue with it. In the absence of that, anyone who is really interested can simply get involved in hinduism and doesn't need to have input here.

I would love one or maybe one called "General Eastern religions"....cause that would cover
Sufism and even Islam, Zorasterism, whatever is out there.

I started a thread on quotes from the Bhagavad Gita...but it turned into debating and doubting....
so I gave up.
For some reason Forums are thought to be about debating and sharing negative, witty comments,
when they are about sharing...
and comradery, learning and getting to know people, also...and learning discretion of
when to butt out and keep comments to yourself.

But, as said above...start a Hindism topic in Relig and Spirituality and see if there is interest.
I rub Genesh's head almost every day....I had a dream of him outta NOWHERE.
I think that little
Elephant headed guy lives on some astral planet somewhere now..I never took
him seriously till my dream a few months ago....within the week I was given
a gorgeous turquoise wall hanging of his head..not to my surprise.

That sounds like a good suggestion. Perhaps someone should make the suggestion in the "About the Forum" section.

However, Sufi'ism is part of Islam. It is essentially a Madhab (A way of life), but no longer recognized as being a legitimate one by most Sunni. Although many Sufi are Sunni and at one time Sufi'ism was a recognized Madhab. I followed the Sufi path when I first accepted Islam, but now follow the Hanafi Madhab when I discovered present day Sufi venerate saints.

There are numerous Sufi Shrines throughout Iraq, Pakistan, India and other locations each dedicated to a Sufi Saint.

Rather then carrying this over to a long Sufi discussion here are some links

Sufi Saints & Sufism, Sufism in India

Because of the high levels of Mysticism and siritualism involved in Sufi'ism many people are unaware that Sufi are Muslims and usually consider themselves to be Sunni. Sufi was one of the original 5 Madhabs of Islam but after Rumi is felt to have fallen into some erroneous practices. But they still follow the 5 Pillars and are Muslim.

Us Sunni are divided over the permissibility of practicing any form of Sufi'ism. Not all agree with what is said on Sunnipath. I am just putting this in for general knowledge with no claims of agreement of disagreement.

I know sufficient Fiqh to fulfil my daily obligations. What I find missing is the spiritual side to this. How would I go abound learning this, are there books you would recommend? What about the Sufi tariqas - are they bida? My Arabic teacher told me that tassawuf didn't exist in the sahabas time, but that there was zuhd, is this true? Also what books/subjects would you recommend to further my knowledge of fiqh?
answer and SOURCE

I still have strong feelings for the Sufi and follow the Hanafi Madhab of Sunni because in my opinion it is what Sufi'ism is meant to be and was before it got involved with Saints.

So why don't you pay for a domain name and write a website and put up a forum for just such, and not complain about someone else not doing it for you?????

Thanx Woodrow!

Well, let's not get started on religions that don't recognize
or honor it's own mystics!

So why are you on this website, Barbara? Why are you mooching off of someone else's creations? Create your own website and post your opinions there.
