I think we'd welcome a thread on Hinduism.

As a bit of an enthusiast for the old ASEAN nations, because they are all Buddhist now, it is often forgotten that they were originally Hindu and the kings of Thailand, though Buddhist, are also in a very real way Hindu gods with Hindu priests and Hindu rites.

In studying the history, I saw how in the 11th -13th c CE, Hinduism (In Pagan, Ayutthaya and Angkor) were gradually replaced by Buddhism, though there was a bit of a struggle between Hinduism and Buddhism, notable in Pagan in the different art style in Angkor with temple images being chiselled out (just like ancient Egypt) and in Siam political dynastic struggle between Buddhist Sukhothai and Hindu Ayutthaya.

Sorry for digression, but forgive an old man his ramblings.

Hinduism has a lot in common with ancient Egypt's religion. I believe Norse, Greek, and Roman mythologies are also in the mix as the same kind of religion as those. I think, when there is freedom to worship God in any way, you tend to have these same kinds of religions pop up. Multiple spirits to pray to, who all have a LOT in common. AND When you have freedom, you can assimilate any spirits from any walk of life as your own, which people of the mythologies often did.

My take on Hinduism is that it the least well-understood of the major religions, certainly by me. I think of Hinduism as a faith that has very few core tenets, and a wide range of ceremonial applications that vary greatly within the compass of Hinduism. I, too, would welcome a thread in which Hindus respond to questions.
