I've never understood the concept of planning for events in a supposed afterlife when in fact you're just dead. I realize that many people deeply believe that this earthly life is just the first phase, so to speak, of an eternal life and our behavior here on earth is going to determine where we spend it. I really have different thoughts about the value of our lives because I believe that this life is the only one I'm ever going to live and it's going to end when I die. That makes life even more precious and the bonds between ourselves and those we love even more important.
Yes your whole existance will amount to nothing, generally speaking. How many people in history are remembered today? only a few in comparrison to how many have lived. It is more than likely that in a couple of hundred years from now no one will remember anything about anyone on this forum. It will be as if you never existed.
Is there an afterlife? The bible indicates no. read ecclesiastes 9 vs 5
For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten
