I know he did. I know there are those that hold him in contempt, also.
Yet, others think he was so wonderful.
I have read amazingly insightful paragraphs of his...what exactly did he "do"
to change thought as he did?
Are you unhappy about it?
I get the feeling it wasn't so good how he changed thought.
Thanx
He was no great philosopher but the little I looked up, his writings tend to be the the first of what is termed testimonies of conversion and such. He was a prolific writer which means that many read his musings and either agreed with or did not agree with.
From the 4th century, his views obviously would have have been framed by events of that era. I doubt he was instrumental in any RC doctrine and in scholarly discussions with theologians, his stuff was seldom mentioned. He was a very late convert to xianity having followed other concepts like Manicheeism and Neoplatonism. I would have to look into those areas to see if any of that came with him into xianity but my guess is that at the time, the religion was so assimilated to include the best bits of everything pagan or otherwise.
In all my "travels" he is not a cited thinker so I doubt he contributed much in the way of any oral tradition.
If you are really interested in how religion changed over time, this is no going to be answered in a single post. This will be years of study and exploration.
It would be helpful if you cited some examples.
It would appear you are just making statements off the top of your head.
I really don't know, dear, that's why I'm asking.
I really have made no statement...I am asking about things
I have heard, geeze
I have heard many times that he 'changed Christian thought'...and whoever
says it is angry about it..that's the "statement(s) off the top of my head"..that I know he changed something?
