Do any of you do that, if so why? do you really think it's a good idea to teach children that people will be burning in hell for rejecting a certain message that may or may not be divine?

I would say that having to threaten children with threats real or imagined in order to get them to accept an idea as true should be a warning bell to people that perhaps their idea is NOT true.

If you can not convince a child of the truth of a claim on its own merits but instead have to use emotional torture and bullying then something is seriously wrong. Both with the idea, and the person engaged in the emotional abuse.

There are right and wrong ways to teach everything.

If one lives in a high rise building it is probably a good idea to let children know a fire is possible and what they should do in the event of a fire.

If you were an Eskimo living in an igloo 300 years ago, it may not serve to teach your children about about high rise apartment fires.

If you believe in the existence of a danger in your neighborhood it is wise to teach your children how to protect themselves from that danger.

If you believe people will be punished if they break the law it may be wise to teach your children about the consequences of breaking the law and what the possible punishments are.

There is such a thing as age appropriate education at which time you teach your children about the consequences of their actions. Which does include the risk of eternal damnation. But along with the teaching of Hellfire comes the responsibility of teaching it is avoidable and how to avoid it. the same as it can be taught the risk of being caught in a burning building and how to avoid it.

You are not going to teach a child about the risk of being caught in a fire, by teaching them fire does not exist.

No. Serious subjects like that are best reserved for later, perhaps teenagers. Children should be taught that actions have consequences.

Good for you.
My ex, an atheist, taught me it was child abuse, in his opinion, to
teach children all this "stuff". Didn't take me long to agree.
I don't believe in a hell, except that which we ourselves create...
Certainly, no punishment from our loving Father, and certainly not eternal.

I do let them know (not teach exactly) that they will see for themselves,
What goes around comes around...so always be kind and do 'good', meaning
do no harm and go the extra mile to help people in everything.
There is a Creator and He loves you very much...but He's really not a "He" or
a Man in the Sky and knows everything about you and loves you more than I do.

My ex would disagree in even that...but I didn't care. :b

Yes they should be taught about "hell", the true hells which is NOT what the original languages meant. Sad thing is that most folk think the bible was written in English.

With the correct words meanings, the context of the verses alluding to "hell" take on a whole different meaning and make more sense.

This. Exactly the method I've took for my little brother. I've already told him a little about Hell but I'm going to teach him the whole thing when he's at the age where he can truly understand it.

A poor analogy given we have reason to think that fire exists and is a real threat. As do laws and the other dangers you list.

Whereas there is not a shred of argument, evidence, data or reasoning on offer.... much less from you.... to suggest that hell exists as anything other than a scare tactic to cajole people into believing something for which there is no other reason to believe.

If you need to use terror and emotional abuse to make people believe what you are selling then something is either wrong with what you are selling and/or with the seller.

If you personally believe that there is a hell then no one should have a problem with that. I certainly do not. If you terrorise children with the concept however then that is, to my eyes, emotional child abuse and emotional bullying.
