We get the idea, based on the numerous hare-brained goofs found in the story of creation, that its writers weren't the brightest bulbs in the room. Is this yet another one? I've never heard it mentioned even though it stands out like a sore thumb.

Quote:
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man.”
24 For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave unto his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Now how in creation did Adam know anything about fathers and mothers since he never had them?
And if he knew about sex, that's pretty obviously, then how come he and Eve never had any children while they were in the garden?

When it comes to fairy tales, one doesn't ask those questions.

Well ... since the "father and mother" of Adam and Eve would technically be God, it means that we are supposed to become atheists when we marry.

No, it means that God is a hermaphrodite.

See this is what you call divine selection ......See God could have given man mate a horse head , but it would not be the same kind ... So the God kind created a women similar to the man kind to complement the species ...... See the real understanding of the story of Adam and Eve was God attempt to come into unity with man , but at 6,000 years ago man with Adam was still underdeveloped mentally for God

That was very astute.
Never thought about that.
Certainly he was to cleave to his wife more than his creator, whether
that is implied as God or human parents.

So many confusing verses thoughout the Bible...whassup with that?

In fairness, the commentary about leaving father and mother is by the author, not Adam or Eve. And the point is that god created the desire of men & women for each other that causes them to form their own families together. And the story is supposedly about how that came to be.

There are plenty of holes in the Bible without straining this hard to manufacture one.

It looks like v 24 is merely an editorial comment outside of the quotes as an explanation, directed to the reader who has a mother and father. I wouldn't expect this to get any attention as a supposed goof.

It was God speaking of fathers and mothers and yes, He sees the future. Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden as soon as they disobeyed God and had forbidden knowledge. They may not have even had sexual relations before the fall. They may have been as innocent children.
