IIRC, International House of Pancakes actually sued them at some point for trademark infringement, but I don't recall the outcome. Let's see, Google is my friend here ... ah, here it is:

I was in Kansas City a couple years ago for a funeral and I was staying at a hotel with other relatives. They told me they just got back from the IHOP and I thought they were rude for not inviting me for breakfast lol! Glad they didn't invite me, thinking I'd be getting a rooty tooty fresh and fruity breakfast with the embarassing name.

Since they know I'm gay, I assume they think I'm a hell-bound demon. Probably why they have nothing to do with me, yet live near me. Oh, those strong family values But at the time, I didn't know IHOP was a nutty cult. I assume they have some connection here in Colorado since my relatives were quite aware of it.

One thing I find odd though. Throughout my family, people tend to be radical/fundamentalist evangelicals. And I know of multiple times where relatives (happened to my parents 3 times now) join some church and eventually, the preacher is taken down for embezzlement, tax evasion, adultry, abuse... You'd think they would figure out that they're falling for a load of BS in their chosen "brand" of religion, but they just move on to the next nutty church.

Heh, when I saw "IHOP cult," I thought maybe it was a thread about those 20-somethings, often college kids, who hang out in IHOPs all night. Goths and Emos love sucking down coffee all night at places like IHOP, Denny's, Perkins, and various donut shops. It's almost like a religious ritual for them to do that.
