Famous St Augustine, Saint and Doctor of the catholic claimed that: "We are all wired for God, and hearts are restless until they rest in God." St Augustine claims that there are two types of God: created gods, and One Supreme Uncreated God, the God of Abraham. The created gods are four in categories: power, pleasure, honor, wealth. He argued that we humans beings who are also created tend to pursue the four created god incessantly. But the problem raised when these uncreated God fail to satisfy our deep desire for God.
So my question is: Who or which is your God? Have you found peace through pleasure, namely sex in our culture? Is your heart at rest when you became rich? Has the constant quest of power quench your deep desire for God? Did all the honors you got satisfy you?
Yes. There is a restlessness. I think it is part of our survival instinct. I can see that religion is a very good spigot for turning off this Need - valve. I would rather need the need.
There are two answers to the question, 'Why don't all our atoms sink through the earth's atoms, so we all get absorbed by earth?'
(2) I don't know. Have a look on the Net. Maybe there's a scientific explanation.
(1) It is God's will that it should be so.
No 1, is a more total answer. However, it is the most ballcrappine.
Jung did advance the thought there was/is a cosmic subconscious and that mankind has evolved with a yearning for a Creator/God/Being/Need/Something beyond themselves. If I have that all right, it has been awhile.
I am OK with that theory. Not sure I would tell another what their yearning is but it does seem to me we are born with that greater consciousness yearning in whatever form.
As much as I might like something or be a fan of something or really enjoy doing a particular thing or even how much I love someone, "god" has a special definition - at least to me - that doesn't apply to anything real.
Closest I'd pick from the list is honor - but I don't worship it. Hell, sometimes you even have to abandon it just to survive in this world.
