It is human nature to want to feel important and special. So if you're a believer, in your blessings, the creator of heaven and earth is tending to you personally. Even in your trials, he is personally interested in you, even if not in the way you would want. Either way you are center stage in a play that's all about you.
It is far more humbling to realize that the universe owes you zilch and that a lot of your success and failures are not from your sky daddy, or even from you, but from dumb luck. And that life isn't all about, or at all about, you.
Good timing. He was going to drop that amount into the pocket of that homeless family that had lost their jobs and home but he couldn't figure out which dumpster they were scrounging food out of that day so you got it.

I work with a few religious freaks and just the other day a woman who sits next to me was complaining about a bad migraine headache. I see her go into her desk and take 2 advils. About an hour later I asked her how she's feeling. She replied...."Much better. God is great". I told her "If you credit god for taking away your headache then why did you feel the need to take 2 advils? Of course I got a blank stare.

They came up with the solution (Ibuprofen) to the headache that God created when Adam ate the forbidden fruit.
It seems like people like to equate good things with god and bad things with the devil.
Or sometimes people will equate bad things with "god is testing me"
Where does this sort of thinking come from?
Some people seem to find comfort in believing God is micromanaging their life.
It always seemed to be dismissive of the concept of free will to me.
