Tasteless?

Of course, no matter what your religious perspective is. But 2 years in jail?

Full report here:

Teen May Get 2 Years For Pic Of Fake Oral Sex With Jesus (PHOTO)

What is the charge? Desecration of a venerated object.

WHAT????? Don't dare touch my talisman, or I will have you charged? What kind of silly law is that?

From the article:
“Desecration” is defined in Pennsyvlania as ““Defacing, damaging, polluting or otherwise, physically mistreating in a way that the actor knows will outrage the sensibilities of persons likely to observe or discover the action.”
So christians would be outraged if Pentgrams are defaced? What about an Ankh? Seriously, we as a society have to get over this stuff. It is a stupid, but harmless, teenage prank that should not even make it to the courts.

Bad taste - sure. Offensive to many - no doubt.

A criminal offense - no way.

What the hell? All teenagers do things like that, just to get funny pictures and show their friends (or these days, post on Facebook).

It's simulated, not stimulated, by the way. Though who knows, it may have been the latter too...

Hello all.

I'm with Trout Dude on this one. It's a miscarriage of justice for this kid to spend a single day in jail. Ban him from the church if you want, but I don't see anything that justifies criminal charges.

Just my quick $0.02

Thanks.

Do you disagree with this punishment for the defacement of any statue? Or any monument? I can't think of any statue that an atheist might hold dear....so I'm kind of at a loss. I'm just curious if there is anything that we could do to deface a statue or monument that you think would be deserving of a punishment?

I'm not suggesting that a person deserves 2 years simply for insulting Christianity, but if the city or state has determined it a crime to deface a monument, that's within their authority.

According to how the law is written where he lives he did break the law and he will probably spend 2 years in prison and perhaps have to register as a sex offender just for being stupid and 14.

+1

Juvenile court is a bizzare place that doesn't operate under the rules of reality though. I can guarantee he dosen't sit in Juvy for 2 years, however.

I wonder what would happen if I took certain disrespectful yet non-destructive liberties with the statue of ole Joe Smith here on Temple Square...

I bet you that 14-year-old would take a couple of whacks on his Gluteus Maximus than to take 2 -years in Juvenile jail, too late for corporeal punishment as some people call it.

I'd also tell him to pull his pants up, that is disgusting when I see teenagers where their pants halfway down their underwear.

If it's a 14-year old doing it? Yes.

Two years of his/her LIFE spent locked up for defacing a statue or monument? Idiotic.

How was the statue defaced? Posing for a picture doesn't deface it.
