Survey: Non-attendees find faith outside church - USATODAY.com

Wow! I'm kind of surprised reading this. I'm glad to see people abandoning churches at a much higher rate than in the past. Don't forget to take the survey(s) on the left side of the page!

I'm not sure why, as an athiest, you would care either way. I may be wrong, but it seems to me it is always the athiests who are trying so hard to disprove a God they supposingly don't even think exists.

Because I think religion is a scourge of man. I'm not trying to disprove God, I'm just trying to use ration and logic so that people of faith (particularly Christians-but that's a factor of living in a mostly Christian country) don't think I'm just some moralless dog worthy of a burning at the stake. I've had a fair share of accusations in my life over why I'm going to be rotting in hell, tortured for eternity, etc.. etc.. based on my belief, so I think it's a wonderful thing when something that promotes an invocation of fear can be broken up!

Not in the least. There are a lot of very good reasons for an atheist to care about religion.

Basically though, the fewer religious zealots there are, the more difficulty they have turning their beliefs into laws.

Similarly, I tend to prefer neighbors, leaders, etc. who value logical reasoning more than faith based reasoning.

Believe it or not....I feel the same way.

The Bible is much like the Constitution. One has been misused by religion as much as the other has been misused by politics. Both have been whittled down, added to, over philosophied, wrongly interpreted, used for self interest for so long....until the orginal point is often lost. What was once a blessing to all men has now become an offense to many.

I refuse to let organized religion ruin my relationship with God much in the same way you refuse to let organized religion cram their ideas down your throat.

So, I wasn't trying to attack your personal belief's at all....I was just wondering.

Not to get too personal, and you don't have to answer this, but do you attend church?

I'm curious why you see this as a good thing? As a believer, I would see it as just the opposite. This country was founded as a Christian nation (I know you disagree, but this is true) and I see this as the reason we have been so blessed. Once we as a nation turn from God, I see only negative things happening.

Ok, I see you've answered my question already. I'll pray for you

That seems very Pat Roberson-ish although I don't think you necessarily meant it that way.

Well I'm not quite sure what you mean by this, but I stated my opinion as clearly as I could. I do believe that only negative things can happen once we (as a nation) turn from God.
