Yes. And almost all of the apostles were killed in horrible, violent deaths. Jesus never promised we would live a perfect, wonderful, happy life full of prosperity as you might see the money-grubbing televangelists say.

So God should have taken away a human being's free will and commanded the shooter's physical body to walk in front of a bus or something? God allows people to commit sin even when it is horrible acts like this. That's part of having a free will.
