Does this apply to Christians in America?

The main problem with some Christians is that they think anyone who does not believe as they do is persecuting them... For instance read the many threads about the recent SCOTUS decision on gay marriage....The only place you see Christian outrage is on the general religious forum, all from Christians, the politics forum, all from Christians, and the Christianity forum....Not one word in protest regarding the gay marriage decision from the Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, or Pagan forum....Then they whine that they are being "persecuted". They bring it on themselves.

You find as you look around the world that every single bit of progress in humane feeling, every improvement in the criminal law, every step toward the diminution of war, every step toward better treatment of the colored races, or every mitigation of slavery, every moral progress that there has been in the world, has been consistently opposed by the organized churches of the world. I say quite deliberately that the Christian religion, as organized in its churches, has been and still is the principal enemy of moral progress in the world.
Bertrand Russell

Because none of those other religions ever had a grip on political power. The Christians did. The Christians don't anymore, so they are angry and bitter.

Get your facts straight , 500 years ago the global controller ( Roman Catholic church ) lost its grip . Breaking a beam of light back into a dark world that for a few thousand years couldn't progress beyond the wheel .
Since then we have seen the mechanical revolution, the agricultural revolution, the industrial revolution and the electronic revolution .Atheism will plunge the world back into darkness , America is a blessed nation , even an atheist can see that .
There are evil powers in the world that know the only way to destroy a blessed nation is to destroy that nations blessing .
You atheist believe our nation is invinsable , don't you see that conduct is the pillar of any succesfull thing here on this planet?
You don't need the bible to figure that out.

What did the Catholic church lose its grip to? Study normal history and leave the bible aside if it offends you . Read your own history with honesty and you will see the change that swept over the planet with the anibaptist movement . And yes the blood that flowed as a result .
Yet light began to shine on this globe .
I choose to give God credit for what we have here today and I know what will become of it for turning our backs on him.

Now it seems that asking government employees to do their job is violating their beliefs.

Texas said that city clerks don't have to issue marriage licenses if it violates their religious beliefs.

Well, Texas spawned Dubya, so...no surprise, really.

Stupid is as stupid does.

And, when the courts tell them that's illegal, they'll cry "Religious persecution!!" Which it isn't. Civil service employees don't get to pick and choose what jobs they'll perform.

More foot-stomping from the religious right. They're nothing if not predictable.
