this group has also gone around the country picketing military funerals. they held signs up at the funeral for one of my brothers in the marine corps, saying that they are glad he was dead, saying "thank God for ied's." they think that our troops dying in a foreign country is God's judgement on america's tolerance of homosexuality (among other things), and that the troops are all just "lazy" and "ignorant," otherwise they wouldn't have joined the service in the first place.

it is an exceptional test of willpower and patience to listen to stuff like that and not become enraged. alas, i am so weak in some areas still...

I am so sorry for your loss. Nobody who is suffering from grief should ever suffer from such terrible hatefulness and blind stupidity.

I wouldn't want it done to the family of a paedophile ( as his sins are his own not his family's) never mind the family of an innocent person who has done nothing wrong at all.

I'm afraid I believe in freedom of speech for the most part but IMO picketing funerals in one step too far and I feel the police should remove those people and arrest them. I think it would called a breach of the peace in the UK.

I am really impressed you resisted any actions. I'm afraid I think I would have lost it . I might not have done something there and then but I would be very tempted to find out where those freaks live and picket them in turn.

So much hatred and so much bile and so much self-righteousness. It makes me feel physically sick.

Once again, I am so sorry and what a terrible experience to have had to endure. You are a better person than I would have been under such circumstances.

I wonder if that means they have accomplished their goal. To take lunacy too seriously can be damaging.

Quite scary. For those of us who identify as Christians and Catholics, and for any person who has a decent moral and ethical backbone without adhering to an organized religion, we know that WBC, and others just like it, border on being satanic and it's amazing that some of these "self-righteous, holier-than-thou, Bible-banging" organizations can't look at themselves in the mirror and see that they are in far more desperate need of atonement than those they are complaining about.

FYI... not to drag up an old thread, but I just heard that Heath Ledger's funeral will be in Perth, Australia - as I guessed it would be, since that's where he was born and raised. So to the Fred Phelps clan, you're responsible for your own airfare if you wanna picket!!

He's abusive to his family and would make quite an interesting psychological case study. I'd seriously bet that he's gay, having seen him up close. Gay and not dealing well with it, that is! Sort of a Ted Haggart with a very mean, psychotic twist.
Unfortunately Queen Gertrude's Observation may be correct here.
