But they are coming through the gate after being washed. It kinda sounds like they have a Chance to repent or something. If the outside is not literal, then inside can't be either. We can split a verse in half like that and choose what is literal. It makes me wonder if those outside are slowly coming to know who Jesus is, then coming inside.
yes--we are washed by the blood of Christ and we go through the gate. Those that are not washed in Christ's blood will be cast out into hell. It's not suggesting that the unbelievers are sitting outside the gate looking in -- they're going to be in hell, which is also "outside". Of course, it's entirely possible the people in hell will be able to see what is happening in Heaven and wishing they could get int.

I never heard that people in hell might be able to look in. That is an interesting take. I would assume in heaven the people can see those in hell too? I never thought of that. Thanks.

Heaven and hell are limited only by the imagination.
The bible in general, and Revelation in particular, could mean just about anything you want it to. Even when I was a still a Christian and a bible inerrantist I was able to reconcile the concept of people coming to "know Jesus" after death based on simply approaching the bible from that perspective and interpreting everything in the light of that belief. Which is the same way that bible inerrantists who believe in eternal torment go about it, though they'll never admit it to themselves or anyone else. They read every verse through the lens of that belief, which means that every verse simply confirms that doctrine for them.
I don't know where you are on the spectrum of bible-belief, but if you're willing to view it through various lenses (including the lens of "God is love"), you'll find that it's a shape shifter.
