Next time a Christian pulls that tired, nonsensical worn-out old line on you, point them to this short video clip that explains in simple yet hilarious detail why this argument is designed solely to get God off the hook for failing to save you, according to Christian dogma:

It's sorta like those that believe "Gangsta Rap" music is the best, and superior to all other music in every way. I am absolutly certain it is not, and have great arguments, replete with spiffy analogies, to make my point. I used to argue it with them...since their belief that it is "the best" meant I had to listen to it all night...and their embrace of what I saw to be really horrible bothered me for years.
After a time, I just came to realize that my distaste for it, even though supported with what I thought to be irrefutable & logical arguments, would not change their belief...and was actually causing strife, because they took it as an insult that I would scoff at and criticize something they really loved.
I employed my own common sense and used my character and power to control my emotions to not let it bother me that they were into something I found to be so distasteful and annoying. That solved the problem.
For those that lack the character and ability to control themselves and find themselves so twisted up and full of angst that they would spend hours of their precious life specifically to tell strangers that they don't like the differing way some others think from them...the medical community has formulated chemicals that can be ingested that aid the lack of coping skills, and help one lead a more contented and happy life.

Of course Christians will contradict all of this with the sophisticated nature of THEIR argument.

This Was Your Life

These are known as comics for a reason. They're pretty damned funny.

Actually, it's true. You send yourself to hell. Or heaven. Which are exactly the same place.

Heaven and Hell are the same place. It's what you create them to be.

I was specifically taught that if I went to heaven, God would get 100% of the credit, but if I went to hell, God would get 0% of the blame. Which was weird, since I was taught that I was "dead in sin" and that only God could save me. So the logic question was always, "so why doesn't God save everyone?" Which of course there was no answer for. But it was the Lutheran way of getting around the problem of God predestining people to hell. It was a way to "blame the victim (i.e. the unsaved)" instead, which was much more palatable to good conservative people like ourselves.

Yes that seems to be a conundrum for many: If God gets all the credit if one goes to heaven, why doesn't He get all the credit if someone goes to "Hell"?

Since God chose specific ones for eonian life (i.e., life the the future eons) to be saved for those future eons, it stands to reason that He didn't choose certain ones for that. Therefore the buck does stop with God.

But in a properly translated Bible, hell is never eternal. And in fact there are plenty of verses telling us that God will save all mankind (1 Tim.2:4-6) is all mankind's Saviour (1 Tim.4:10), and He will make all mankind righteous and justify their lives (Romans 5:18,19) will head up all in the heavens and earth in Christ (Eph.1:9-11), will reconcile all mankind (Colossians 1:20) and will be All in al mankind (1 Cor.15:22-28).
