There is plenty of proof. For starters, the air that you breath was created by some of those single celled critters. And it took many of them a very long time but they produced enough oxygen to rust out all the dissolved iron in the oceans, leaving the rich iron deposits now being mined in Australia and oxygenated the atmosphere to the tune of some 33% but only after the oceans were oxygenated and then the land masses saturated. Look up stromatolites. They still exist so their ancient fossils are readily identified.
