Not the God through Jesus Christ , as God give good things to His children and is no way abusive father , still if God children turn to the devil and give the devil authority in their lives then it is not God hurting them , as it is the devil who can hurt people , as the devil is the bearer of disease , hatred, discord , not God ............ Where in the old testament God gave the world to man and man gave the world to the devil , so God did not have authority to help , even with the covenant with Israel , God had limited authority , and only saves 144,000 people in 2,000 years , as the rest of the people turned to the devil as their father ........were it is the devil who is the abusive parent ...............See God does not force people to love Him , how would you like it to force a spouse to love you .......
Abusive parents have self love/worth issues - God doesn't have that problem. If you're going to raise old testament sacrificing, that was mankind's childhood phase. We've matured since then, to the point that we are ready for the next phase of Gods kingdom and will coming on earth as it is in heaven.
This topic came up in another thread, and I thought it deserved it's own thread.
To what extent is the Christian God like an abusive parent?
The deity is entirely evil if it exists, and should be exterminated. It behaves in a totally abusive manner and kills off anyone who disagrees with it!
He doesn't. He is self-sufficient. He doesn't need anything.
