Of course I've no idea what kind of redwoods granpa is talking about. In fact I seldom have ANY idea what granpa is talking about. But he seems to enjoy his hobby so... rock on granpa.
My mistake. I thought a redwood was a redwood.

Pretty neat that some types can survive off the coastal fog.

Non-Sequoia redwoods look similar but are a LOT smaller. There are groves of them in Griffith Park that are used as 'stunt doubles' for Sequoias in movies and commercials.

Some native Americans refer to trees as the Standing People and that feels true to me.
