The part of the story that was omitted was that there were all kinds of ants who hid in the cracks of the ark. They kept reproducing, so the anteater couple had plenty of food.
After the water dried up, they moved to the part of the earth that is now under my condo, and they come up in the kitchen.
If the story is metaphorical(allegorical) then they ate metaphorical (allegorical) ants. If the story is literal then that is up to those who take the story literal to explain. FYI story does not mean fiction.
Seems like a thread just to provoke the usual suspects.

There you go, it was those darn carpenter ants or termites. So, the anteaters were just a defense mechanism against the ark falling apart.
Did Noah break the rule of two of everything (yeah, we know about the 7 thing, but it doesn't apply here)?
Or did the anteaters all of a sudden turn vegetarian?
What about the vultures and other carrion eaters? What did they eat? Remember, only two of each kind was to be on board.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proofs, not "this might have happened".
My guess would be they ate ants.
The Bible actually says they took 7 pairs of many animals. And nowhere does it suggest that they didn't take other animals for food.
