Indeed. These threads are pretty useless at least to the people engaging them because all it seems to produce are those two tired littanies: Not Really One of Us or Not Really That Bad / You Are Persecuting Us.
In any case in the BC* era, I suspect these things happened just as frequently, thought they are probably somewhat more likely to be reported in the press today. I was certainly aware of such tales of perfidy when I was a Christian, enough to find them embarrassing. Ultimately I didn't leave the faith because of these bad exemplars anyway ... I left because its dogma was not predictive or descriptive of real world outcomes and it wasn't working for me personally.
