Since my grandson was diagnosed with Asperger's, we think it quite likely that my husband (69 next month) also has the condition. If that is the case that would certainly explain one heck of a lot over the nearly 47 years of our marriage. Of course when my husband was young, one never heard of autism. Like our grandson, my husband was highly intelligent before an aneurysm burst in his brain in 2006 trashing the left side of it! He had a good academic career, and it frustrates him terribly that he can no longer do anything of an academic nature. Due to his brain damage it is not possible to ascertain for certain that he does have Asperger's.

Sorry to hear of your hubbies misfortune. It wouldn't be surprising if he does have Asperger's. It might even be surprising if he didn't.

I heard about autism when I was young but it was about full blown autism. I only realized a few years ago that my mother was autistic. I'm not sure whether she would fit the Asperger's bill. A clinician who himself has Asperger's says not, which confirmed my own assessment.

How old is your grandson now?

Some would say having Asperger's is almost a prerequisite if you wish to get on in life. I believe Bill Gates has the condition.

I suspect that some great people may indeed have had/do have the condition. Bill Gates we could ask although I suspect that wouldn't work.

I think that Asperger's can be a curse or a blessing or both. I think my son was not automatically doomed because of Asperger's. He did suffer abuse and school was a major stressor for him. Then came the social clumsiness. In the right circumstances I think he would have thrived.
