I know that this can be found in other threads but they are so long and people change what the thread started out as so it is no longer what it was meant to be.

When Joseph Smith (founder of the Mormon Church) was alive blacks were not only welcome in the church but were invited to join and encouraged to join. There were several Black men who held the priesthood and there were some who actually took out their endowments in the temple. (Something only worthy men and women can do and men must be worthy priesthood holders)
Joseph Smith NEVER said that black men could not hold the priesthood. It was only after he had been murdered and a very prejudice man (Brigham Young) took over that blacks were no longer allowed to hold the priesthood. Brigham Young never said that God told him they could not it was just accepted by the Elders (many of whom were also prejudice) and it continued until Spencer W. Kimball. Being a Mormon myself I found it very disturbing to learn this but the more I researched the more I found that to be true. This is something that the Mormon Church does not tell when people ask about it. What do you think of this. I would like your thoughts, both Mormon and non-mormons.

I was already aware of this. I'm a black atheist. I don't care if blacks are Mormons because racism wasn't one of the things Mormonism was built on. I just have problems with blacks doing things such as going to Brigham Young University. Any black who does that is smoking something serious.
