He was for social programs and feeding the hungry (loaves and fishes), national health care (curing the ill, miracles), against bankers and big business (threw the money lenders out of the temple), for the common working man not big corporations (carpenter).
Jesus, if he ever existed, was a radical of the far left.
First of all, it is impossible to try and classify Jesus in any plitical sense. He is far above any conservative, liberal, or whatever.
He wasn't for government social programs, he was for helping the poor. Republicans are for helping the porr as well, just not through government programs. Where did Jesus ever say it was the responsibility of the Roman empire to provide health care??? The fact that he healed people doesn't mean in any way that he was for national healthcare. It is impossible to tell from the context of the Bible. He threw the "bankers" out of the temple, not out of the city. He threw them out because the temple is a place of worship.
It's blasphemous to say that Jesus belonged to a political party. He is the Son of the Living God who loved everybody, and wanted to make sure nobody was going to spend eternity in the pit of hell, and without being in the His presence and the Father, after our last day on earth.
Jesus would have been an anarchist, or at least be perceived to be an anarchist by the ruling government (as he was then).
Jesus would also have been a bad politician since he doesn't compromise, nor does he agree with the majority for the sake of winning political power ( unlike all the other politicians).
Jesus got crucified because he would not bow down to the Roman Empire (ruling power on earth) or the Jewish Bible scholars (ruling spiritual power over all the Jews in Israel).

Reason: clarification
Maybe Jesus would be one of those free love hippies in Oregon who chains himself to a sacred tree or frees scientific experiment mice or dogs from the pound. Maybe he'd go around feeding homeless bums even if they would just trade the food for drugs or alcohol. Maybe he'd suggest that it's wrong to instigate an unrighteous war, and that all wars are unrighteous. Maybe he'd suggest that if you give unto the least of these my bretheren/sisteren, you give unto me. Boy what a sap. (I'm just kidding here of course). If he was a true Republican Jesus, he'd let the poor figure it out themselves or starve and reduce the surplus population.

I'm sorry, but feeding the hungry doesn't automatically make you a socialist in favor of government-run social programs. Healing the sick and working miracles doesn't make you in favor of nationalized health care, throwing money lenders out of the temple doesn't mean you're against banking and business, and being a carpenter doesn't mean you against big corporations. I think what you've demonstrated in this post is a complete misunderstanding of the Bible. I won't even try to correct the problems with calling Jesus either a modern liberal or conservative. I just don't know where Jesus ever said the government should force people from their money and allocate it to the poor; the Bible tells us that if you don't work then you don't eat. This is an expression of what is morally right, but then Jesus takes it upon himself to show compassion, mercy and love toward those people who are hungry, sick and homeless anyway. That, I think, is the point--it's not the government's responsibility, it's our responsibility (all of us are personally responsible for helping others). I also find it interesting that a University of Syracuse (?) study found that political conservatives give more of their money to charity (both by percentage of their income and by net amount), donate more of their blood, and volunteer more of their time than political liberals--so much for the evil money-hungry conservative myth.

Did'nt Jesus say that " It is easier for a Camel to pass through the eye of a needle, than a rich man enter the kingdom of heaven"
With that kind of anti wealth philosophy Jesus was not a Republican, but a far left activist.
