About 50 prominent evangelicals are attending an invitation-only gathering this week at Wheaton College to discuss the future of evangelicalism—more specifically, the condition of the movement and the divide that resulted in the past year related to cultural issues.

It is rather obvious that several BIG NAMES are missing (aka NOT INVITED) to the conference including Franklin Graham of Samaritan’s Purse, Jerry Falwell Jr. of Liberty University and Dr. Robert Jeffress of First Baptist-Dallas.

Birdsall saying. “I don’t think they (Franklin Graham, Jerry Falwell Jr., and Dr. Robert Jeffress) are globally perceived as evangelical thought leaders by virtue of what they have written or by virtue of the values that are reflected in their public statements.”

You could gather 50 regular / average folk and probably cover more ground that these self-absorbed promoted types. Just like in politics, status and elevation nearly always lowers their usefulness.

Besides, these guys already are full of their ideas, and rigid and stale. There's really no room for new ideas and flexibility. Repeat the same old ways, get the same results

Maybe someday people will wake up to that, and reverse the way we to go about things.

It at least is encouraging that they see that eradicating their differences and sidelining their extremists is their best hope for survival.

But these things end up being more for show-and-tell than anything else. Of course they have to do something publicly to look like they're interesting in fixing matters. But the end result is nearly always protecting and preserving the status quo.

Instead of looking at intentions and appearances, we need to look for results and changes/improvements. Actions speak louder than words and games. Until things change for the better, the score remains at 0. No gains...no points.

It's long overdue for Evangelism to fade away and be placed in the fiction section of the public library.

Another clear-cut bashing of Christianity with no shred of support data included.

How about you provide some details of the meeting either confirming or denying the OP claims?

All he said was "American evangelicalism is old testament Christianity tribal intolerant and homophobic". That's a sweeping statement and opinion, but serves no purpose other than to bash.

He said nothing in reference to the original post. I've already shared my views about the original post in #2.

It's a meeting held at Wheaton. It's historically a lukewarmish, kind of liberal college. It is logical that guys like Stetzer, Labberton, Lyon, and others would be invited, while leaving others out. For the record, I really don't consider Graham, Franklin, or Jeffress to be leaders, either. And I would agree that some of the names like Keller are good people to invite.

And to be honest, it's not good English. It fits a mold. There have been people that use broken English before that are obviously of a different religion that simply register to attack Christianity. This person has only a few posts and one of them was a thread that was shut down because it was inflammatory.
