Few religions ever took rape seriously -- and many still don't.
Our laws against rape in the United States exist in spite of the Bible - because Biblical rules regarding rape are cruel, barbaric, and victimize the victim for a second time; the "justice" is almost as bad as the crime itself.
Biblical laws on rape also give any man a way to simply *take* whatever virgin female he wants -- whether the woman likes it or not.
Since a rapist must pay a fine and then marry his rape victim, well, if little Suzy spurns a man's sexual advances, all the man has to do is rape Suzy, pay the fine, and now Suzy MUST submit to the man and be his wife -- when she didn't want to even be around the man much less marry him.
Real good stuff for the women of Israel.
Religions are always inserting loopholes into their rape laws so that men can get away with it -- because religions are invented by and the rules written by men, therefore, these religious men protect themselves knowing damn well that, sometimes there's nothing better on a boring Sunday afternoon than a pint of ale, a good old fashioned rape, then kicking back with a hearty belch and turning on the football game.
As George Carlin said: "Cops didn't see it, I didn't do it." But where Mr. Carlin says it comically, religions say it ... and mean it.
