No one is arguing why, they are simply pointing out that they were (and are) power mad dictators.

ozzy, from my angle, I see two statements of beliefs about god pointing the fingre at the other. both sides are basing a reality around a statement of belief about god.
so long as you lump all atheist in the "them" group this gap won't close. It won't close because you are not focusing on the root cause.

Gee. I really wish I could live up the atheist standard in this regard.
Being "religious" gets prisoners in some prisons extra perks, like more time out of cells to go to counseling and services. For Muslims, it might get them better food than the general population. Here's an article about prisoners in the UK supposedly claiming to be Muslim to get perks like that. It also says that some prison authorities are forcing prisoners to convert to Islam.
I have nothing against Islam; some of my best friends are Muslim and I enjoyed an Eid-al-Fitr celebration with some recently. Two of them are ex-offenders; I'll have to ask them about their experiences in the Missouri penal system.
