Hopefully Im putting this in the appropriate forum.
Just curious what you would do in this case...would you instantly believe them, or would it take some convincing, like maybe some proof they are what they claim to be?
I suspect many people would automatically believe its a trick of some kind and they would be hesitant to believe.
by the time life from other parts of the galaxy present themselves on our planet and make themselves known widely, at that time yes it will be accepted that we are related because there will be evidence for it, what you call "proof." when humanity has advanced and grown in its consciousness then we will meet them. not before because it is not safe for them to do so. bear in mind that they are more advanced. whereas we are barbaric (i.e. war). as we grow in peace and integrity, then it will become safe for them. we are moving in that direction and making progress. we are getting there.
family. not "aliens." family.

They wouldn't care. The earth is just another feed lot for them.
It is the same as any other claim for a creator or a messiah - there will be people who immediately believe and those who dont, those who want more proof and those who sit on the fence. Just another day in the life of a 'religion'.

That's perceptive. You spotted that this is the same question ('reverse of coin' as in the 'Atheists wouldn't believe if God Himself came down and revealed himself (the 'atheists will reject any evidence' argument). To which, the response is 'If God Himself came down and said that Christianity and Islam are wrong and it is Judaism that was right, would the Christians and Muslims believe Him or tell themselves that this is a trick (probably satanic) to put them off their Beliefs?
The atheist view (as i argued it) would be some skepticism. "You say you're God. How do you prove that?" There would be some reasonable discussions about acceptable proof and any god that 'knew everything' and wasn't just a dictatorial bully would appreciate the need for valid reasons to believe and would know that faith is actually random.
This point about God or indeed aliens claiming to be God points up how footling 'Faith' is. It is choosing (if not being spoonfed) one Belief and then sticking the fingers in the ears when any reason to question or doubt that is presented.
This is why Doubt and Question is the real Sin,
Faith is bad, though considered the ultimate Good. The more brainless it is, the better. If maintained in the face of compelling evidence that it's wrong, that's the purest faith ever.
This is why the religious apologists accuse atheists of ever being convinced by any evidence when in fact their polemic (as usual) applies to themselves and their Fingers - in -the -ears faith, and it doesn't apply to atheists who around Half were believers but could not continue to deny the evidence that the religion did not stack up.
Never going to happen.
Any contact of aliens with earth is so unlikely that the chances are close to zero.
The nearest (possible) habitable planet is Proxima B, which is more than 4 light years away. In human terms, using the speed of Voyager as an example it would take about 80,000 years to get there.
And habitability isn't even very likely due to solar winds, meaning the planet likely has no atmosphere.
To put that in perspective, earth was still populated by Neanderthals 80,000 years ago.

I'd be very skeptical. But I'd take what they say and compare it to what God has already said in the past, and see if it lines up.
