I led Torah study. It went relatively well. The portion was called Yitro or Jethro and included the Ten Commandments. But I dealt with the first two third of the portion, which treated other, equally weighty parts. I am not that religious but I tell you, the Bible was way ahead of its time for reasons including the following, in just one Torah portion:
Yitro was Moses' father-in-law, a Midiantite and not a Hebrew. In this portion he advised Moses well both to delegate his responsibilities rather than trying to do everything himself, and to establish a neutral method of adjudicating disputes. These are now the hallmarks of all advanced societies.
The writers of the Ten Commandments must have known of their dramatic importance. The leadup to the delivery, including some dramatic meteorological events, is downright cinematic. And the Ten Commandments themselves are the basis of all civilized societies.

In other portions the Bible mandates:
End to child sacrifice;
Debt forgiveness;
Fair weights and measures; and
Handicapped rights.
Pretty mind blowing, eh?
Slavery, genocide, abortion (oh yes, i assure you) sale of daughters...all instructions handed down by the god of the OT. That's never mind the odd medicine, wonky history and curious science.
And child sacrifice carried on until Rome put an end to all human sacrifice (except in the arena ) If God cared about the kids rather than the Israelites not copying foreign religions, you'd think he'd go to the Phoenecian empire rather than making husking grain on the Sabbath a crime (until Jesus suddenly said it didn't matter because King David ate the shewbread).
Yes. One of the major commandments is one that Jesus said didn't matter. Not to mention the father and mother thing, because the religious cult was more important than family - and still is.
I won't go into the hypocrisy of Lip service to a religious Icon they don't actually follow. You can work that out for yourself.

Good post.
If I could find any other book as mind blowing, I would read it everyday like I study the bible.I am alwaysed amazed that other people dont take Torah study seriously, it is so mind blowing, all I ever think about.

Yeah, but they got some things right. I mean, isn't that amazing?
I mean, don't steal - mind-blowing, right?
Seriously, as if there weren't people and places in the world that hadn't already figured out that refraining from killing children and taking things that belonged to others made society run smoother.
It's like saying "Sure, Saddam's rule had certain downsides, but you have to admit he did do a lot to improve literacy!". Scientology, Mussolini, slavery, communism - a person isolated positive aspects of virtually anything and anyone. "Oh, so you contracted coronavirus and almost died? Yeah, but you got free lodging, food and healthcare at that military base where you were quarantined for 21 days!".
This condemns all nonbelievers in what is one of the biggest denials in the history of the world. It causes people to question so many so-called academic opinions and "facts" about history. That is the plain truth.

What is "this"? Many but not all of the posts here are cryptic beyond comprehension.
